welcome to soft air: a newsletter about making and paying attention

a new bi-weekly newsletter for connection and sharing my practice. shop updates, new patterns, class announcements and general studio news will continue to be shared here. issues will be archived on my site, in the journal.

in the studio

the clothes off my back: a new open ended project about developing personal style while navigating queerness and body dysmorphia. sorting through my closet until i love everything, making quilts from any article of clothing that i can't directly resell. while the intention behind donating unwanted clothing is positive, there is more inventory than secondhand stores can turnover. excess inventory ends up in the landfill and may also be shipped overseas to burden "developing" nations.

so here i am, trying to find an identity through clothing that feels comfortable and true while also being a conscious consumer. thinking about the few bins of clothing i have in storage, that have been packed away for almost a year, none of which i really miss. the beginnings of this project are shown above; in addition to unwanted and worn articles of clothing i am also including off-cut fabric from pieces i have altered to better fit my body.

in the press

my new banner work (more on these next time) was featured in the june issue of bolt zine. pick up your copy here.

in the media

LOOKING: eva hesse: expanded expansion at the guggenheim, 30 americans at nbmaa, cindy sherman at hauser & wirth

READING: you have a match, tweet cute, the quilt: stories from the names project

WATCHING: the before trilogy, madame x: an absolute ruler, good luck to you leo grande, love island uk (s2), real housewives of beverly hills (s4)

LISTENING: taylor swift's folklore on repeat. its the only thing downloaded on my phone (minimal cell service in these woods) and so precisely captures golden, moody new england summer.

in the soft air

the way my tattoos look under water, U's wild curls, carrying sleeping D in from the car, the golden light peaking through dense tree cover, crawling into linen sheets, drawing with markers, baby birds leaving the nest, picking the first raspberries of the season (and my weight in cucumbers).
