welcome to soft air: a newsletter about making and paying attention

a new bi-weekly newsletter for connection and sharing my practice. shop updates, new patterns, class announcements and general studio news will continue to be shared here. issues will be archived on my site, in the journal.

in the studio

this past winter i read my dark vanessa. a tale that spun me back to the feeling of being a teenager, that made me want to reclaim every ounce of girliness and frivolity and joy i ever shoved to the side in the name of being taken seriously, or held in esteem, by people who never had any intention of really seeing me. i've chose to work with colors, motifs, and trims that read as stereotypically feminine. i begin with a patchwork foundation on which i place text, applique, and fringe. it is important to me that i keep a sense of hopefulness through the designs and the language i choose. the smaller size of these pieces allows me to consider working in a series, making multiple pieces to explore a central idea. this way of working does not come as naturally to me as i tend to think in isolated pieces. it's an enjoyable challenge to dream up more banners to expand the series.

in the shop

my popular quilted alphabet zine is restocked in the shop, as well as some other printed patterns. pick up your copy here.

in the soft air

A's skirt blowing in the wind, sewing with U, a fish friend at the lake, J's new curly limbs, a cool morning and a light jacket, friends building things, chats with G, baby birds snuggling in the tree, fresh ciabatta from the coop, watching fluttering butterflies, laying on a quilt staring up at the trees, 4 months alcohol free <3
